Regret to report the recent passing of Ed McKillop in Cape Breton.

Ed was a well known and respected member of the Black Watch’s 1st Battalion’s boxing team in Aldershot, Gagetown and Germany. Ed re-badged to 2 RCR in 1970.

Passed on: April 7th, 2012
Edward Hubert McKillop of Yolanda Drive, Sydney, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Murdoch and Margaret (Doolan) MacKillop.
Well known for his boxing achievements, Ed was inducted into the Canadian Forces Boxing Hall of Fame, Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame, the Cape Breton Heritage Sports Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Oromocto, N.B. Wall of Fame Military Base.
Ed was a Cape Breton Lightweight Golden Gloves Champion (1951), the first Canadian Infantry Brigade Middleweight Champion (1955), the Canadian Army Middleweight Champion and the Central Command Middleweight Champion (1956), the fourth Canadian Infantry Brigade Middleweight Champion (1961), the Canadian Army Light-Heavyweight Champion and the Eastern Command Middleweight Champion (1964).
Serving overseas in Germany, Ed was a member of the Royal Canadian Regiment and the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada. He was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 12, Sydney.
An instrumentationist by trade, Ed was employed with many construction companies on projects all over the world.
Surviving are his loving wife, Loretta; son, Kip (Cindy), Alberta; daughter, Shauna Lee (Charles), Sydney; brothers, John (Sheila), David (Patricia); and his grandchildren, Adam and Dillan.
Edward was predeceased by his sister, Mariam Coffie and brother, Robert.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rev. James Oliver officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow at Grand Lake Road Fire Hall, Grand Lake Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
