As noted in the obituary below, he served with both The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada (Second Battalion) and The Royal Canadian Regiment.

Penney, Charles Percy
It is with broken hearts that the family of Charles Percy Penney of Burton, N.B. mourns his passing at the Oromocto Public Hospital on 18 August 2013.
Born in Kelley’s Cove, N.S. on 10 December 1928, he was the son of the late Emma (Christie) and Percy Penney and husband of the late Phyllis (Nickerson) Penney.
He is survived by his children, Glenna Gilman (Carl) of Lincoln, N.B., Ann of Burton, N.B., Emma Furzer (Muir) of Strathmore, A.B., and Jim Penney (Shelley) of Burton, N.B. Also survived by grandchildren Christa, Reena, Charlie, Justin and Alyssa, great grandchildren Charlise, Danica and Emily, step grandchildren Cyndie, Tim and Sheri, step great grandchildren Katelyn, Brooke, Jacob, Wade and Maxwell, step great great granddaughter Mikayla. Living siblings include sisters Blanche Billard (Harlan) of Rockingham, N.S. and Lillian Metzger (Lynn) of Mechanicsburg, PA and brother Harold Penney (Judy) of Westmount, N.S., sisters-in-law Glenna Gaudley of Iona, N.S., Paula Doucette of Yarmouth, N.S. and Pam Condon (Keith) of Hebron, N.S., brother-in-law Jim Nickerson (Verna) of Barrington Passage, N.S. as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis, sister Margaret and brother Walter.
Charlie joined the military in 1951, where he served with the Black Watch and the RCR. During this time he was posted to Kentville, N.S., Sussex, N.B., Oromocto, N.B., Werl, Germany and back to Oromocto, N.B. in 1965. He did two tours in Cyprus with the Black Watch. In 1970, he moved his family to Burton, NB.
After retiring from the Military in July, 1974 he worked for T W Gilbert and Sons, eventually retiring in 2002. He was a hobby farmer and had a small apple orchard, where he enjoyed picking apples with his grandchildren. He enjoyed sitting outside in the front yard waving to all those who tooted their horns on the way by. In his earlier years he enjoyed woodworking.
He was a former member of the Dominion Rifle Association in Werl, Germany, the Liberal Association, the Burton Lion’s Club and Ducks Unlimited.
Visitation will take place at the Oromocto Funeral Home, on Friday 23 August 2013; from 7 to 9 p.m.
A private interment will be held at St Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Burton, N.B.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
