Black Watch & RCR Friends:
Regret to report that Danny lost his long battle with cancer early yesterday (8 May) morning in the Fredericton Hospital.
Danny and I served together in B Coy, 2nd RHC in Camp Aldershot and Gagetown. We were attached to The Black Watch Depot together to shepherd 95 Squad through its basic training in 1959. Three years later we proceeded to Germany together with 2nd Battalion and returned to Gagetown in 1965. In 1966 we went to Cyprus together with 2nd Battalion but then we got separated for a few years. And like many of us, he was re-badged to 2 RCR in 1970. Immediately after joining 2 RCR we went to Montreal for the FLQ Crisis after which we spent part of the winter of 1971 in Jamaica.
In 1976 we were reunited in 3rd Battalion, RCR in Petawawa for the Summer Olympics in Kingston followed by another tour in Cyprus.
Despite his failing health in recent years, Danny remained positive and cheerful. He and Mae attended last year’s Atlantic Branch gathering in Summerside and actively enjoyed all the associated activities and fellowship.
I will miss him.
