The funeral for Burt will be a graveside service, at that time, both Burt's and his wife Martha's ashes will be interred.

The service will take place at Beechwood National Cemetery on Friday, October 9th at 1 pm. You are asked to meet at the Cemetery office at 12:30 pm.

Chuck wrote this brief overview of Burt's military service:
"Burt joined the North Shore Regiment on 17 June 1940 and went with them to the UK in July 1941. He returned to Canada a year later as a corporal-instructor and then underwent officer training in 1943. In 1944 he volunteered for the CANLOAN program and was assigned to 1st Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment in North West Europe. He was wounded in January 1945 and spent the next five months in hospital. Burt was discharged from the Army in late 1945 and worked in Campbellton NB until he rejoined for the Korean conflict in October 1949. He served for five years with the PPCLI but transferred to The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada in 1955. He was the last Commanding Officer of The Black Watch Regimental Depot in Gagetown."

Martha passed away in 2013, her obituary follows:

"Harper, Martha Blanche (nee Campbell)
Lieutenant (Nursing Sister), retired

Peacefully at home with her husband of 67 years, Burton, by her side, on December 30th in her 101st year. She was born in Christieville, Quebec, to Eva May Ellis Campbell and John Campbell, and trained as a nurse at the Montreal General Hospital. She served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in the 24th Canadian General Hospital in Horley, England during the Second World War where she nursed Burt, her future husband. They married in Montreal in 1946.
She lived in Ottawa since 1964 and worked at the Royal Ottawa Hospital. She was a life member of the Lorraine Chapter of the IODE and served as its Regent. She was a spiritual person who was latterly a member of the congregation of St Paul's Presbyterian church, from which she gained much comfort. She enjoyed life, reading, playing bridge, and loved being with family and friends. She loved laughter.
She was the dear mother of Gordon (Kate) from Stratford, PE and Jane (John Sprigge) from West Kirby, England, and much loved grandmother of Martha and Libby. She was predeceased by her brothers Walter, Norman, Gordon and Archie and by her sister Marjorie.The family thanks Terasita, Emily, Cynthia, Rowena, Erma, Elvira and Saada for enabling her lasting wish to stay in her home until the end. Many thanks also to Dr Mouaikel for all her care.
A memorial service will be held on the 10th January at 1 p.m. at Beechwood, Cemetery and Funeral Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa (1-866-990-9530) with a reception to follow.. Donations in her memory may be made to Shelterbox Canada. Interment to follow at a later date at Canada's National Military Cemetery. Tributes may be sent via Lifetime at www.beechwoodcemetery.com"
