CAINES, Cyril Emmanuel passed away on September 12, 2015 at the age of 91 at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home, in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. Cyril was born on June 9, 1924 in Burgeo, Newfoundland, son of Emmanuel and Sarah Caines. He proudly served with the Merchant Navy during the Second World War and later served in the Canadian Armed Forces. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary (Anderson); his sons, George (Eileen Webb) and John (Darlene Sullivan); his brother, Milton and sister Dulcie, grandchildren, Michael, Tara, Emilie, Melanie , Matthew, Patrick and Kathleen and great-grandchildren, Kaila, Kacey, Jackson, Aiden and Nicholas. Cyril became an accomplished photographer and painter and won several awards at art shows in the Annapolis Valley. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the devoted and caring staff of the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home for their loving and exceptional care. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service. If friends so desire, donations may be made directly to The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, 112-2719 Gladstone Street Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3K 4W6 alzheimer@asns.ca. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, October 24, from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal with Rev. Juanita Barteaux officiating. Second Battalion nominal roll of February 1960 shows Private C.E. Cains as a member of Headquarters Company living in Camp Gagetown Married Quarters.

He likely joined 1954 or ’55 and served with 2RHC in Aldershot and Gagetown leaving the battalion in 1962.
