GREENE, Major Norman Bruce, MMM, CD (Ret'd)

October 13, 1940 – April 24, 2016

It is with profound sadness that the family of Norman Bruce Greene announces his passing. Norm was the beloved husband of Laurena Greene (Stalker) of St. Albert, AB, father of Jacqueline Greene (Fraser Todd) of Spruce Grove, AB, Elizabeth Greene of St. Albert, AB, and Catherine Zoernig (Matthew) of St. Albert, AB, grandfather of Christina and Alexandra Zoernig of St. Albert, AB, brother of A.L. (Bud) Greene (Faye) of London, ON, and Barbara Greene of Port Howe, NS, and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Norm loved his family, his life and the Canadian military. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick to Norman George Greene and Isabel Martha Pope, he grew up in a family who had proudly and honourably served, fought and died in the Canadian military for generations. At an early age, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and began his own military journey. He was so proud to have served with the Black Watch, R.C.R., Airborne, P.P.C.L.I., Rocky Mountain Rangers and the Loyal Edmonton Regiment. He was selected to serve abroad with the United Nations, completing peacekeeping tours in Cyprus (UNFICYP 1966), India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP 1978-79), Syria, Lebanon and Israel (UNTSO 1982-85 and 1990-92).

Norm was a fantastic storyteller. Many an ear listened intently while he shared incredible recollections of his life's amazing journey. Without question, he gave his time freely to those who needed him. He was a proud and noble gentleman who was honest, caring, dignified and fair. He made instant and lifelong friends wherever he went in the world and he gave his "all" in everything he did. He truly was one of a kind and he definitely was one of the best. We were undeniably blessed to have had him in our lives and we miss him deeply.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at St. Albert United Church, 20 Green Grove Drive, St. Albert, AB. Cremation has taken place.

Memorial donations may be made to Valour Place Society, 11109 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T5G 0C6, the St. Albert Legion Branch #271, 6 Tache Street, St. Albert, AB, T8N 2S4 or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 10985 – 124 Street, Edmonton, AB, T5M 0H9.
