Black Watch Friends:

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of a personal friend, Pete Goldie.

Age 79 of Antigonish, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2016 at St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Dominion Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Campbell) Goldie.

Peter was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan (Rutherford); children, Helen, Karen (Troy) and Heather (Jonathan); grandchildren, James and Caitlin; sister, Marilyn O’Brien and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by siblings Elizabeth, Margaret Florence, Thomas James, Katherine, Helen, and Terrence.
Peter joined the Canadian Army Active Force in 1955, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals (1958), commissioned under the Officer Candidate Programme and was posted to the Second Battalion The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada (1960), posted HQ Militia Area Atlantic as G3 Training, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (1973) and retiring from regular forces in 1991. After retirement from Regular Forces he was retained by Regional Operations at Maritime Command as the Canadian Ranger Captain and continued on with the Rangers as G3 Rangers at LFAA Headquarters and Adjutant of the 5TH Canadian Ranger Patrol Group until 2002.

In 1998 Peter was appointed a member of the Order of Military Merit.

Peter had many overseas postings during his career (West Germany, Cyprus, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt). Although I never met the man more than once with me being first but I did hear from my bothers who were second that he was a real nice guy. RIP Peter.
