Black Watch Friends:

Regret to report the passing of Eugene LaPointe this week in Oromocto.
Eugene joined the Army in 1958 and believe he went to Germany with 1st Battalion the following year. On return to Gagetown in 1962 he remained with 1st (D Company?). He subsequently re-mustered to RCAMC.

Note: Memorial service in Oromocto on Tuesday 11 July.

Eugene LaPointe

It is with great sadness to announce the death of Eugene LaPointe of Ripples, New Brunswick, Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Oromocto Public Hospital at the age of 76. Born in Beckettville, New Brunswick, he was the last surviving child of eight of the late Edmund and Marie (Gauthier) LaPointe.
He enrolled in The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada in 1958 at 17 years of age and served proudly until remustering to the Royal Canadian Medical Service. He served 30 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, a posting to Soest, Germany and two United Nations tours to Cyprus with The 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment before retiring in 1988 to Ripples, New Brunswick. An avid hunter, fisherman, boater and antique car enthusiast he could often be found tinkering in his garage.

Eugene leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Emeline (nee Dempsey) his sons Kim (Lynne Giguere) of Oromocto, Gene (Paula Shea) of Saint John, his daughters Debra (Tim Tupper) of Jemseg and Sheila (Paul Kowalski) of Lakeville Corner, twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His siblings Dennis, Lindsay, Phyllis, Yvonne, Alice, William and Josie predeceased him.
The family would like to thank the wonderful team of doctors at the Oromocto Public Hospital, and the superb nursing staff on the first floor for their compassionate and excellent care. It brought the family great comfort in his last days.
Visitation will be held Monday afternoon from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 in the evening at the Oromocto Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Fr. Antonio Reyes officiating. Interment will be held in Jacquet River, NB at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eugene’s memory can be made to the Oromocto SPCA.
