Regret to report the passing of .C. Critch on 10th August.
This soldier went through our Regimental Depot with 95 Squad and on graduation was posted to 1st Battalion for its NATO tour in Germany. He remained with 1st Battalion except he was posted to 2nd Battalion for their United Nations tour in Cyprus 1969/70.

Crtich, Alfonso Chester
11 November 1938 – 10 August 2017

Today we mourn, tomorrow we will celebrate the life of Chessy, Dad, Poppy or Pappy, the man that will forever be in our hearts. Sadly, he passed away after a very short battle with lung cancer at the Victoria General Hospital, in Halifax NS.
Born in Grand Falls NL, 11 November, 1938, Chester is the son of John and Ethel Critch, also of Grand Falls NL.
He had 6 brothers and 3 sisters; Kenneth (Margery), Francis (Sadie), John Jr, Annie (Earl), Fannie, Dudley (Eileen), Frank (Fay), Shirley and Glen (Shirley) as well as brother and sister-in-laws; Gerald (Mona), Ronald (Hilda), Lester (Marie), Fredrick, Oron (Barbara) and Jeanie (Sandy) through marriage, and many nieces and nephews.
At age 21, (1959), Chester joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he served as a member of the “Black Watch”. In 1962, Chester met the love of his life and soul mate, Mildred Marie Gordon, and married in December of that same year. In 1963, They welcomed their first child, Sherry Lynn (Lance) and their second child in 1964, Steven Brian (Bernice). In 1973, after many peace keeping missions in Cyprus and Germany, and many calls of duty home and abroad, Chester and Mildred decided to retire from the CAF and pursue a life as civilians. In 1974, they welcomed their third child Lisa Marie (Richard).

After a short stay in Dartmouth, Chester and Mildred took up roots in the Cole Harbour where they raised their three children and continue to reside today.

They have four beautiful grand daughters; Arielle Olivia, Carly Alexandria, Kayla Marie and Taylor Alexandrea as well as two awesome great grand children Tristin James Brian and Callee Olivia, and we cannot forget his four legged grand daughter and buddy Gracie.

Chester has always been a sports person and comes from a large family of die hard Boston Bruins and Red Sox fans. In recent years, he has become a supporter of Canada’s teams Toronto Maple leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays, but you always knew where his heart was when the two teams met!

Chester, or Alfonso depending on his partying mood, could easily be the life of the party. He could make pretty much anyone laugh which was a direct result of his Newfie roots. He was the only man that could start a bonfire and keep it going in a monsoon! Gifted with rope or string and tape, he was the Cole Harbour MacGyver.

A dedicated and devoted husband, father, grand father and great grand father, you will be forever missed and always in our hearts. RIP Chessy, Dad, Poppy, Pappy!

A graveside Funeral Service will be held Thursday 17 August 2017 at 11:00 am, in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 771 Main St, Dartmouth. Following the interment, a celebration of his life will take place at the Centennial Legion Branch, 703 Main St, Dartmouth.
