A. Perry White
1936-2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband and father, Alfred Perry White, 81, of Amherst, and formerly of Oromocto and Joggins. Perry passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 in Halifax. Born in Joggins, he was a son of the late Oman and Elda (Rogers) White.
Perry was in the Armed Forces for more than 20 years, serving with the Black Watch and RCR in Camp Aldershot, Germany, Cyprus and CFB Gagetown. He was a longtime member of the Black Watch Association and a 45 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. After retiring from the Forces, he worked 20 years for Sumner Plumbing, Fredericton. He loved animals and enjoyed nature, playing cards, reading Western novels, watching Star Trek, and most of all, spending time with family and friends.
Perry will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty-four years, Margaret (Gates), of Amherst; his daughter, Valerie White and her husband, Hans Hogers, of Toronto; three sisters, Judy Gagnon, Livonia, MI, Agnes Stolz, Calgary, AB, and Carolyn Vanbuskirk, Lower Sackville, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews and close extended family.
Besides his parents, Perry was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, James, Charles, and Borden, and his sisters, Elaine, Nora, and Patsy.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777) where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 2 pm with Rev. Charlotte Ross officiating. A time of reception and fellowship will follow. Interment will be held in the River Hebert Cemetery in the spring. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 4, Joggins, will hold a service at 1:45 pm on Tuesday before the memorial service.
