Regret to report the death yesterday of Trevor Paquin in Fredericton.

Trevor Paquin grew up in Ottawa and joined the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa as a piper during World War 2 but was too young to deploy to Europe with the Camerons. After VE Day he transferred to The RCR and volunteered to participate in the Canadian military element for the invasion of the Japanese Home Islands which was cancelled after VJ Day.
He went to Korea with 1RCR as MG Platoon Sergeant and Drum-Major for the battalion’s military band. He was posted to RMC as a drill instructor in 1953 and was assigned responsibility to create a Pipes & Drums band for the college.
Trevor left The RCR in the early 1960s and joined 2nd Battalion, The Black Watch of Canada in Fort St. Louis, West Germany. He retired from the Army just after 2RHC returned to Gagetown in 1965 but remained active in the local piping community for many years thereafter.

Trevor William Paquin
1928-2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Trevor Paquin, formerly of Geary, NB, on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the Veterans Health Unit, Fredericton, NB. He was born in Ottawa, ON on August 17, 1928 to the late David and Ida (Lumsden) Paquin and was the husband of the late Lorraine "Laurie" (Gray) Paquin.
Trevor served proudly in the military for twenty five years. He was a Veteran of the Korean War (1951-1952) and belonged to: Governor General Foot Guards (1941), Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa (1942), The Royal Canadian Regiment 1st Batt. (1946-1964) and 2 RCHR (Black Watch) (1964-1966). He was also employed for forty years with Maritime Life Assurance Co. and Manulife Financial as a Life Underwriter.
He was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church and church choir in Oromocto, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93, The Cameron Highlanders Assoc., The Royal Canadian Regiment Assoc. (Sunbury-Royal NB & PEI), The Black Watch Assoc. and the Fredericton & District Highland Pipes & Drums. He was also a past member of the Life Underwriters Assoc., the Fredericton Elks Club, a Drum Major of the Fredericton Marching and Concert Band and Br.#93 Legion Pipes and Drums Band.
Trevor was predeceased by his parents; wife, Laurie and his brothers, Kenneth, Desmond and Lorne.
There will be no visitation or service by Trevor’s request. A graveside service will be held at the St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Oromocto to be announced at a later date in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to the Oromocto Public Hospital Foundation.

Remember Trevor very well. Classy guy for sure. RIP in peace soldier.

I remember Trevor well. He was my first instructor who endeavoured to teach me some equestrian skills, in particular how to stay on a horse longer than five seconds. Thanks to Trevor's efforts I managed to become reasonably successful and to a sufficient degree thanks to Trevor that RSM Don Reekie and DM Mike Phelan were also willing to take me on as a student at their riding stables. Trevor was very generous of his time and his horses in opening up the joys of this wonderful sport to me. Trevor was extremely proud of having been a soldier in his younger years, and I was the happy listener to his many stories of his adventures and experiences which he loved to share. We became good friends during those years in CFB Gagetown.
Rest in peace Trevor, I will often think of you and repeat your name in my thoughts as I think of past friends.
