Black Watch and RCR friends:

Regret to report the passing of Smokey McKay last week in Oromocto.
Smokey went to Germany with 1st Canadian Highland Battalion as a North Nova Scotia Highlander (Support Company), remained with the unit when it was re-designated 1RHC, deployed back to Camp Aldershot then returned to Germany with 1RHC in 1958. By 1963 he was a platoon sergeant in ‘C’ Company 1RHC and later a sergeant in Support Company with 1RHC in Cyprus. He re-badged 2RCR in 1970 and accompanied the unit to Montreal for the FLQ crisis that autumn and to Jamaica early the next year.
(Thanks Gerry!)
