WHITE, Reverend Roy 5 Years, 10 Months ago
Black Watch friends:

Regret to report the passing of Padre Roy White two weeks ago in Dartmouth.
This guitar-strumming padre was one of the more popular clergymen in CFB Gagetown in the late 1960s and he supported both of our battalions there.

WHITE, Roy
DECEMBER 3, 1936 – DECEMBER 28, 2018

Age 82, originally of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, passed away on the morning of Dec. 28th, 2018 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. He was the son of Malcolm and Catherine (Budge) White. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann (Were), his children, Katharine (Eric) Barnhill, Heather White, Roy (Angela) White Jr., and Derrick White, and his grandchildren, Evan (Kristen) Barnhill, Chelsea (Dan) Weatherbee, Brianna (Matt) Patey, Joel Patey, and Lia White, as well as sisters, Susan (Jack) Davies, Joyce Anderson, Willena MacDonald, and Effie "Tootsie" (Bruce) Hudson, all of Glace Bay. He was predeceased by sister, Annie Nearing, and brothers Aubrey (Marge) White, Malcolm "Malky" White, and Fred White.
He graduated from Mt. Allison University in 1958, and then received his Masters of Theology from the Atlantic School of Theology in 1978. He was a reverend in the United Church from 1960 to 1967 in Cantebury, NB, Upper Stewiake, NS, and Sydney Mines, NS, before serving in the Canadian Armed Forces as a chaplain from 1967 to 1991, retiring as a major. During that time he did a stint in Cyprus during 1968 serving as a peacekeeper, and was stationed across the country from coast to coast. After his retirement from the military, he returned to the United Church in New Minas, where he served his congregation until he retired fully in 1998. He was a born storyteller and entertainer with an almost slapstick tendency to get into hijinx. He was a loving, caring man known for his sense of charity and duty to his fellow man. He made deep connections with every one he met and he never forgot a face. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing competitive games, especially checkers, chess and pool, and loved interacting with children and animals. His lust and love for life will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Visitation to be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM., with funeral service to be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11:00 AM, both at J. A. Snow Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prescott Group or Soul's Harbour.

Roy is one of the greatest man I've ever met and will be sorely missed. Thank you for your service and compassion for the troops. RIP Roy.
