Black Watch & RCR friends:

Regret to report the sudden death of Terry Seaver yesterday (28 April) in the Ottawa General Hospital.

Terry began his military career with the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders in 1962 and joined the Canadian Army Regular the following year with 144 Squad in The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada Depot in CFB Gagetown, NB. He graduated from Depot in June 1964 and was posted to 1st Battalion RHC – initially to ‘B’ Company and later with Reconnaissance (Cyprus) and Mortar platoons.
In 1970, when The Black Watch was removed from the Regular Force Order of Battle, Terry was posted to 3RCR in CFB Petawawa and served initially with ‘M’ Company and later Mortar Platoon. In 1976, he accompanied 3RCR to Cyprus as a member of ‘N’ Company.
On return from Cyprus to Petawawa in 1977, he relocated with 3RCR to Germany where he served until 1982 as a member of ‘M’ and ‘O’ companies.
In 1982, and now a Master Warrant Officer, Terry was posted to the Infantry School in CFB Gagetown, Leadership Wing, where he trained infantry officer candidates and advanced mortar-men until 1986. In 1986 he was posted back to 3RCR, now in Winnipeg, initially as the Armour Defence Platoon MWO and later as CSM ‘P’ Company. In 1988 he returned to Germany with 3RCR as CSM ‘P’ Company.
In 1991, Terry returned to Canada to become Training MWO at the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College in CFB Kingston, following which he became Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant and then Drill Sergeant Major for Ottawa’s Ceremonial Guard until 2000.
Since retirement he has been active in both The Black Watch and The RCR associations: He served as President of the Upper Canada Branch of The Black Watch Association for several years during which he initiated the branch’s monthly lunch program in Ottawa. He was also very active in the Ottawa and District Branch of The RCR Association and played a major role in coordinating the RCR National Reunion in Kingston a few years ago. Terry was also an avid golfer.
Terry was highly respected by his subordinates, his peers and his seniors; he will be greatly missed by his comrades.
A memorial service in Terry’s honour will be held at a time and place to be announced.
