George Alton Stanford Daye
1927-2019
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of George Alton Stanford Daye at the age 91. George’s death occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on July 4, 2019, after a lengthy illness and courageous battle. Born on July 19, 1927 in Westville NS. He was the son of the late Silas and Lillian (Welch) Day and the loving husband of Mary (MacDonald) Daye.
George was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces (Black Watch/2RCR) for 25 years. After his retirement from Canadian Armed Forces, he continued his working career at the old VA hospital in Fredericton, retiring in 1992.
He loved being outside whether it be just puttering in the backyard, going fishing, or going for walks. Always enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays and he loved his Toy poodle, Soe. The love and adoration George had for his whole family showed how proud he was of them.
George will deeply be missed by his loving wife, Mary; their children, George Daye (Danette Pond) of Fredericton, NB, Donna Konkle (Barry) of Burton, NB and Calvin Daye (Jen) of Orleans, ON; grandchildren, Sarah, Tristan, Jessica, Athena and Marina; brothers, Bun Day of Halifax, NS, Merle Day of Westville, NS; sisters, Loreen Thompson of Westville, NS and Erma Chenell of Westville, NS.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased his two brothers, Rubin Day from Westville, NS and Earl Day from Halifax, NS.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago St, Oromocto, on Friday, July 12th from 7pm-9pm. Prior to the visitation, The Royal Canadian Legion branch #96 will hold a tribute service at 6:45 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 25 Loisville St, Oromocto, on Saturday, July 13th at 1pm with Reverend Charles Udeh as celebrant. Interment will be held in Oromocto Pioneer Garden cemetery following the Mass. For those who wish, donations in George’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
