Arthur William O’Brien

1941-2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Art O’Brien (O.B.) announces his peaceful passing at Hospice Fredericton on Monday, September 2, 2019. Art was born in Pictou, NS on February 12, 1941 to the late John and Mary O’Brien.
Survived by his wife, Gisela; two sons, Arthur (Dorothy Hanlon) and Andrew; his daughter, Kathleen Ryan (John); grandchildren, Sarah Villon (Emilio), Catherine, Alix (Kyle Snow), Brianna Ryan (Karl Rikardsen) and Cullen Ryan. He was looking forward to his great grandson Villon to be born later this year. Also survived by his sister, Colleen Anderson (Keith deceased), brothers and sisters in law in Germany, as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada, the US and Germany.
In addition to his parents, Art was predeceased by his sister, Helen Haggart (Mike). He proudly served 26 years in the Canadian Army, in the Black Watch and as a trucker in the service corps.
Art was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was looking forward to going moose hunting once his name was finally picked, after many years of waiting. He enjoyed playing darts and shuffleboard and was a proud member of the Oromocto Legion and Black Watch Association. He was often found singing karaoke at Fairley’s in Oromocto on Friday nights.
A big thank you to Dr. Sainz and her staff at Hospice House for the wonderful care Art received while there. They gave great comfort to Art and his family during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on September 5, 2019 from 4 – 7 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 93 will hold a tribute service at 3:45pm, prior to visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11 am with Rev. Fr. Charles Udeh as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery with a reception after. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House Fredericton.
