Black Watch friends:

Regret to report the passing of Larry Walsh last month in Coldbrook, NS.

Have been unable to determine when or where Larry served with The Black Watch RHC. If you know, please let us know.

Lawrence Joseph Sr. "Larry" WALSH
1933 - 2021

Lawrence Joseph Sr. "Larry" Walsh
Age 88 of Greenwood Square, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2021 in his home with his family by his side. A proud Newfoundlander, born in St. John’s on February 19, 1933 to the late Margarita and George Thomas Walsh I, the seventh of 16 children. Lawrence was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Black Watch and served as a UN peacekeeper for three tours between 1951-1979 including stops in Cyprus and West Germany. After retiring from active duty he started his second career as head chef for the Wandlyn Inn Coldbrook, and later consulted for the Wandlyn Inn of Atlantic Canada in the 1980s, finishing his career as the head Chef at CFB Greenwood’s Combine Mess and Officers Mess. Always known as a fun-loving and generous man, many would call him “Big Larry”. Lawrence cared deeply for his family and friends, and an unwavering fondness for the Leafs and the Blue Jays. Big Larry will always be remembered, by those who knew him best, for his thumbs up and a big “A1”. He is survived by his son, John E.W. "Bill" Walsh (Kerri), Victoria, B.C.; daughter, Patricia "Nancy" Walsh (Terry), Red Deer County, Alta.; son, Larry (Melissa) Walsh Jr.; grandchildren; Chris Walsh, Nichole Walsh, Brady Murray-Walsh, Gordy Murray-Walsh, Laurie Higgins, “Jason” (Reiley) Dondale, Kristen Walsh Harvey, Dariyn Walsh Harvey, Brian Walsh, Jasmine Walsh, Hunter Walsh, Lucas Walsh; and many great-grandchildren. Lawrence was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Eileen Walsh in 2016. As per request, there will be no service at this time. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).

If it is the same Big Larry I knew, and I am pretty sure it is. He served in with us in Fort St.Louie, Werl in the early 1960s. We would chat about home, St.Johns NL, mainly because we were both from there and some of the same people.
RIP Big Larry, I remember you well.
