Regret to report the passing of Percy (‘Butch’) Stein in Summerside on 14 October.
Butch served in Korea as an Army Service Corps driver during the same time that Second Battalion, The Black Watch RHC was serving in Korea.
At some time in the early-1960s he remustered to Infantryman and ended up in Gagetown with First Battalion, The Black Watch RHC where he was a valued member of the unit boxing team. He retired from the CAF in 1971.

1932-2021
The death of Percy F. Stein of Kensington, PEI and formerly of Saint John, NB, occurred at Andrews of Summerside, PEI on Oct. 14, 2021. Percy was the eldest son of the late George and Lillian (Albert) Stein, Saint John NB. Survived by his wife Marlene (MacMurdo) Stein, daughters Tammy (Billy) Pickering, Sea View, PEI. Susan Stein at home. Predeceased by first wife Dorothy (Guilfoil) Stein.
Survived by sons Robert (Gay) Stein, David Stein, Terry Stein, Ricky Stein (deceased), Stephen Stein, daughter Brenda Stein. Grandfather of Robert (Louise) Stein, Moose Creek, ON, Ryan (De Billows) Breton, AB, Kerry Pickering (Tom Hearn) Kensington, PE, Brad (Mallory Harding ) Pickering, Margate PE. Also survived by many more favourite nieces and nephews.
After numerous jobs, Percy decided to join the Canadian Army in 1951. He would spend 20 years in various units as RCAS, Black Watch, and PPCLI. He served in Korea, Egypt, and Cyprus, then after moving to Prince Edward Island in 1971 he later joined the Corps of Commissionaires for 20 years at CFB Summerside. Percy's passion was boxing at a young age in Saint John Shamrock Boxing Club and continued his career while serving in the army. He was inducted in the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame at Hamilton, ON. In 1990, also in the CAF Honour Wall in 1990. These would be his proudest moments.
Resting at Davison Funeral Home Kensington. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no public visitation. A private funeral service will be available to view online on the funeral home website after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19th. Interment in People’s Cemetery Kensington. Donations to the International Children's Memorial Place (ICMP) or a charity of your choice.
