Harry "Wayne" Garnett
1945-2022

GARNETT, Harry "Wayne" – age 77, of Canning, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by family. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Harry and Ruth (Burgess) Garnett.

Wayne proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces for over 30 years, retiring as a Sergeant. He served with the Queens Guards, Black Watch and was a proud member of Pioneer Platoon within 2 RCR. In the ‘70s he completed an Operational Tour in Cyprus and participated in the FLQ Crisis. Wayne was extremely proud to be a Soldier in the CAF, living his life afterwards using much of what he learned. Pro Patria!

During his retirement he spent his time fishing his own stocked pond in the backyard, honing his skills with a variety of woodworking projects, driving his ATV with Kathy, tying flies and hunting. He loved his family immensely and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. Wayne was known to most of his friends and extended family as the storyteller and jokester around the campfires, at family gatherings and any type of event when you heard the laughter and belly roars you knew Wayne was there.

Wayne will be deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen (Snelgrove); children, Kim (Tom) Green, Tim (Karen) Garnett, Dawn-Marie (Dave) Tompkins and Lisa (Jerry) Baxter; honorary daughter, Angie Tyler; brothers, Rodney, Brian (Betty), Darryl (Sheila), Glen (Heather) and Larry (Betty); grandchildren, Alyssa-Dawn, Brittany-Jean, Cayley, Ethan, Regan, Colson, Zoie, Creegan, Braeden, Bradley and Amber; and great-grandchildren, Layla and Levi.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, TJ; brothers, Barry and Kevin; and sister, Donna.

Cremation has taken place. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. On-line condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.

With thanks to Eric Journeay, CWO (Ret) Clayton and Gerry Oberwarth for the foregoing.
