James Francis "Frank" Martin
James Francis "Frank" Martin – age 86, of Cambridge, formerly of Kentville, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2022, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in St. Johns, Newfoundland on August 16, 1936, he was a son of the late George and Irene (Rolls) Martin. Frank joined the Canadian Military in 1953 and was stationed at Camp Aldershot where he met his wife, Joan. During his military career he proudly served in the 1st Battalion Black Watch, 2nd Battalion RCR, Airborne. and the West Nova Scotia Regiment. After his retirement from the forces, he was employed with Acadia University where he enjoyed working as equipment manager, gymnastic instructor and part time educator. Frank was a very proud veteran, dad and poppy to many that knew him. Frank is survived by daughters, Susan (Oran) and Sandra (Bill); sons, Stephen (Linda) and Stacy (Ashley); sister, Betty (Tim); brother, George (Vera); in laws, Bob (Shirley) and Henry; grandchildren, Candace, Sheri, Jason, Oran, Tony, Nikki, Billy, Ernest, Stephen, Alex, Gavin and Jack; 12 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his wife, Joan; his parents, and sisters, Irene, Hilda and Judy; brother, Art; in-laws, Robert, Mary Farris, Shirley and Ron. Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Frank’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to Meadowview Community Centre. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
