Black Watch friends:
Regret to report the passing of J.R. (John/Ches) Chestnut in Moncton on 27 January 2023. His funeral will be held on 11 February in Miramichi, NB.
John served with our Second Battalion, The Black Watch RHC in CFB Gagetown and Cyprus (1969/70 tour).

John Richard Chestnut

John Richard Chestnut, husband of the late Sharon Ann Anderson of Miramichi, passed away at the Moncton City Hospital on Friday at the age of 74.

Born in Douglastown, NB, he was the son of the late Earl and Monica (Mahoney) Chestnut. He was retired Truck Driver for the Canadian Military, a member of UN Peace Keepers (6 tours), member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 10 and a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

He is survived by his sons, David Chestnut of Moncton and Jason Chestnut (Rebecca) of Moncton; his sisters, Clara Gallant of Miramichi, Patricia Chestnut of Red Deer, Alberta, Jane Dunnett (Gary) of Trout Brook and Madeline Rivard (Les) of Fort Saskatoon; his brother, Robert Chestnut of Miramichi; his granddaughter Elora; nieces Kim, Shelly, Lori Ann, Crystal, Carrie and nephew Brett.

He was predeceased by his parents, wife and sisters Catherine and Susan.

John Richard Chestnut is resting at Davidson’s Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy, with visitation on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 5pm-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at St Samuel’s Roman Catholic Church at 11 am. Burial will be in the family plot of St Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery later in the spring.

In his memory, donations to Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
