Regret to notify you of the death last week of Jim Walker who served with 2nd Black Watch during the 1960s.

1924-2011

James Eldred Ward "Jim" Walker, WO, Ret’d - 87, formerly of Bridgewater, passed away Friday, October 28, 2011 in the Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Building of the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late John and Pearl Walker. He enlisted with The New Brunswick Rangers as a member of the Non-Permanent Active Militia at the age of 14 and also served with The New Brunswick Tank Regiment. He actively served during the Second World War with The New Brunswick Rangers and the 10th Canadian Independent MMG Company, serving throughout Canada and Europe. Following the war, he served with the I.P.P.C.L.I and the Royal Highland Regiment of Canada (42nd Reg. The Black Watch) in Canada, Germany and Korea. He retired at the rank of Warrant Officer. After retiring, he and his wife travelled throughout North America for over 17 years making many stops to visit family and friends. He is survived by a daughter, Katherine (Stephen) Boone, Kentville; a son, Robert (Mary), Port Alberni, British Columbia; four sisters, Lillian, Joyce, Leola and Linda; a brother, Graham; four grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Jeremy and Andrea; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie (Till) Walker, three sisters; Jean, Annie and Jacqueline, and five brothers; John, James, Gordon, George and Donald. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by family request. The funeral service will be held in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville at 2:00pm, Wednesday, November 2, 2011, followed by a reception, Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiating. Burial will take place in the Garden of Rest Cemetery - The Anglican Parish of St. James, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Bethune, and the nurses and staff of Camp Hill 5 East for their caring, kindness and compassion and the dignity and respect shown to Jim. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
