Lieutenant-Colonel Victor G. Chartier, OMM, CD, AdC |
There are no translations available. October 7, 1934 - April 6, 2016 It is with sincere regret that the Regiment announces the passing of Lieutenant-Colonel (Retired) Victor G. Chartier, OMM, CD, AdeC on April 6. LCol Chartier served over 50 distinguished years with The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada. He joined the Regiment in the 1950’s as a private soldier and earned his way to the appointment of Regimental Sergeant Major, serving as such from 1974-1978. He then commissioned from the ranks and held various officer positions, culminating in Commanding Officer from 1986-1989. During his command one could argue that the highlight of his career was overseeing the Regiment’s 125th Anniversary in 1987, including the week-long visit of the Regiment’s Colonel-in-Chief, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. His dedication to the Regiment persisted after his command, with his appointment as Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel as well as Vice-President of the Black Watch Foundation. In civilian life, he served as Vice-President of Weider Fitness, and more recently as Director of Executives Available, both of Montreal. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Doreen (née Smart), his son Rick and daughter Cindy, several grandchildren and one great grandchild. In accordance with the family’s wishes, donations may be made in LCol Chartier's name to the Black Watch of Canada Foundation (2067 Bleury St., Montreal QC, H3A 2K2 or online through www.canadahelps.org) or to Mt. Sinai Hospital Palliative Care (5690 Cavendish Blvd, Montreal QC, H4W 1S7). Visitation will take place Friday April 8, 2-5pm and 7-9pm at Kane & Fetterly, 5301 Decarie Blvd (corner Isabella, valet parking available). A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 9, at 11am at St. Richard's Parish, 7070 Guelph Rd., Côte Saint-Luc. Condolences may be sent to www.kanefetterly.com. Dan O'Connor
