Historical Research/Visitation

The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada Regimental Archives are open to members of the academic and military community, as well as interested members of the general public. Please contact the Museum and Archives coordinator at 514-496-1686 ext 230 or at by e-mail to discuss your area of interest and make an appointment. As our Archival finding aides are works in progress, please allow for a reasonable delay while we search through our holdings and prepare documents for your visit. Please note that the Regimental Archives are not publically funded and depend largely on your contributions to remain accessible. A donation to the Museum Fund would be greatly appreciated to offset the costs of preparation and staffing the Regimental Archives. Copies of documents are available upon request, but relevant charges will apply.

Personnel Records/Request for Service Information

Personnel records represent roughly one third of the holdings of the Regimental Archives. Regrettably, it is not a comprehensive collection. Though the collection holds documents from c.1890 to c.1960, it is at its most comprehensive for soldiers from the WWI and WWII periods and particularly for original members of the Overseas Battalions. If you are interested in making a service information inquiry, please download and complete the form found HERE  and return it to us at the address indicated thereon. Unfortunately, given the high volume of requests and the size of our research team, we cannot accept email requests at the present time. As well, due to the volume of requests,for the time being no new requests will be answered. Any request received will be put on hold and answered when time permits.
