Regret to report the passing of Bill Wellwood earlier this month in Fredericton.
Bill joined the Army in 1955 and was assigned to 2nd Battalion RHC/’A’ Company. When 2RHC deployed to West Germany in 1962, Bill was posted to 1st Battalion RHC in Camp Gagetown where he remained and was re-badged 2nd Battalion, The RCR in 1970. He continued with 2RCR until he retired from the CAF in the early 1980s.

William Leroy Wellwood
February 2, 1934 ~ July 8, 2022 (age 88)
It is with heavy hearts the family of William Leroy Wellwood, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather announces his passing on Friday, July 8th, 2022.
He was a retired officer in the Canadian Armed Forces and a proud member of the Black Watch. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion where he served in many positions including Sargent at Arms. He was a participating member of the Masonic Lodge for many years. Some of his favourite pastimes were hunting, fishing with his wife Ethel and son William where his main goal was to shoot the bigger buck. He was also known to many friends and acquaintances as the “Midnight” farmer and “Santa”.
In addition to his loving wife of 69 years Ethel (Medicraft) he is survived by daughters Linda Wellwood South Alton, Susan Ryan Burton, Sharon Yeomans (Robert) Saint John, Cynthia Gast (Harold) Burton, Donelda Wellwood, Oromocto, William A R Wellwood (Anna) Sioux Lookout, ON., several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sisters Patricia, Faye, brother Robert (Rose). He was predeceased by father Anthony Wellwood, mother Vera (Coleman) (Chapelle) (Wellwood) Coughlin, step father Daniel Coughlin, sisters Prudence, Juanita, Caroline, Matilda, and brothers Junior and Marshall We will forever hear his favourite phrase “carry on” and we hope he is doing just that in heaven with his family.
Arrangements are under the Professional Care of Sunbury Funeral Home. There will be no services held at this time as requested. Donations can be made to The Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice. Condolences
