Donald Harold Harnish
June 19, 1929 ~ January 30, 2023 (age 93)
With great sadness, the family of Donald Harnish of Wirral, NB, wish to announce his peaceful passing at home. He passed away in the arms of his loving wife of 77 years, Theresa Harnish as well as lots of loving family.
Donald is survived by his five sons; Gary (Thelma), Wayne (Shirley), Gordie, Donnie (Joanne) and David (Francine) Harnish, three daughters; Carol Easton, Dorothy ( Richard) Crombie and Shirley (Gary) Charlton, son in-law Glynn Nason, twenty-three grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren, sixteen great great grandchildren, Theresa’s family, Francis and Mildred LeBlanc Joan Brown, Lorraine Bawn, Margie Leblanc and Albert Welton and several nieces and nephews.
Don joined the army in 1954. He proudly served in the Black Watch and RCR for 25 years. He deployed as a peacekeeper to Korea and Cyprus. He retired from service in February 1978 but continued to be active with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 55 until his death. He was immensely proud of his military career and instilled the importance of service with his children and grandchildren. Upon retirement, he continued to serve his community as a member of Hoyt Fire Department and Hoyt Search and Rescue. Don had many jobs but started his second career as a cabinet builder with Dave Noble woodworking in the 80’s. One of his proudest achievements was working alongside his son Donnie in his cabinet making business. Don enjoyed many activities, including moose hunting, fishing, and traveling with Theresa and their son Gordon in their RV. Above all else, Don treasured his time with family. Nothing made him happier than hearing the laughter of the little ones. His hugs, and the wink that went with them, were famous, and he never shied from giving one.
He was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Jenny, a daughter Linda, son-in-law Paul, brothers Percy, Rufus and John, two sister in-laws Josephine Gallant and Shirley Welton, four brother in-laws, Wilard, Marvin, Les, and Arthur as well as his father and mother in-law, Louis and Alice LeBlanc. Don was the last surviving member of his family.
