Hello! 'The Black Watch' has always been a mystery for me. When my father was alive and in the Service (Air Force - ground mechanic), quite often he would get a phone call from whatever base he was stationed at, and he would put on this "odd" (for me, at that young age) dress uniform... and all he would say is, "there's a Black Watch; I need to go to the base." He would never talk about those responses - not even after he was retired... Was there something "officially" "eyes only" about his responses to 'The Black Watch'?

It was in southern Ontario and in southwest Nova Scotia - both in Canada. It was the only times I saw him wearing a kilt, with a white belt and ... harness? sash? down over one shoulder.

What year range? Could he have been in the Air Force but also played with a Black Watch pipe band? That could have been Nova Scotia.

My father had no pipe and drum experience that I know of. He was a corporal, then master corporal in the Air Force... his involvement with The Black Watch began while we were still stationed in Ontario. ...I guess it will remain a mystery, as to why he behaved in such a clandestine manner about it.

Not to spoil anything but possibly he had some "old Black Watch buddies" and this was just their code for a get together? Where were you living in ON?

I was born in Picton ON, while we were stationed in or near Ameliasburg ON. Then we were stationed at Toronto, then to London ON... After that, we made a big move over to CFB Stonehorse, in Bacarro, Shelburne County NS.
... You may be correct - regarding, getting out with his Black Watch buddies. Perhaps his "seriousness" about it was all an act. Ah, well - that's Life in the military!
