O'Neil, John "Jack" 12 Years, 8 Months ago

Gentlemen: with heavy heart I send this information along to you for furtherance to the Association.
My uncle, John (Jack) O'Neil, of Orleans, Ontario; as staunch and proud a Black Watch member as ever drew breath, passed away this morning in Oshawa, Ontario after a short illness. He was visiting family and took ill in Oshawa.
He is known to the Orleans Legion and all in it as a Sgt at Arms, and multifaceted volunteer, especially of the poppy campaign.
His wife Victoria survives him.
Many would recognize his boomimg laugh and the "3 BN RHR" license plate on his vehicle.

Thank you

Black Watch Friends:
John O’Neil from The Miramichi died yesterday in Oshawa, Ontario.
In the early ‘60s John and I served together in 2nd Battalion RHC/’D’ Company in Gagetown and Germany, and we went to Cyprus together with 2nd Battalion in 1966.
After Cyprus, John went to the Airborne Regiment when it was formed in Edmonton and subsequently remustered to Military Engineer.
I last saw him one week ago today when Lorraine and I visited him in the Oshawa Hospital.
John was active in The Royal Canadian Legion and the Black Watch Association. He was a regular at Atlantic Branch gatherings every September, and he was the co-ordinator for the Upper Canada Branch BBQs held every June in the Orleans Legion.

Jim, there was a double barrel for the family of Johns. While John was in the hospital they also had his Brother in law come in within a couple of days of him.
Gord was Annas husband. Gord passed away on Thur night and John about 12 hours later on Friday morning. Gords funeral was yesterday (Mon) & Johns is on Friday.
Been quite a 2 weeks for Bon & I. John & I had a couple on the Wed. & Fri. just before he went to the hospital at my Legion. We had a few beer and then 2 good scotches for which we toasted our Regiment and to our friends.
Bon was our DD & we dropped John off at his other sisters place for supper. We then had the call the next day about John being admitted to the hospital. I did get up to see him after he got out of the CC Ward 3times.
Bon & I went up on the Friday morning to see him when we got the bad news. It is still hard to digest at what has happened. Both of us will miss him coming into town, as we always got together with his family for a couple.
Take care Jim.
Bob

John was a great friend, part of our BW Family always and did us proud every year we had the Upper Canada Branch BBQ at his legion. He made sure we were well fed and happy and it was always icing on the cake to see his smile! RIP John - our sincere condolences to his wife, his family and his many many friends. Sad as the day was, it was great to see on such a hot day, so many people out for Johns interment. We along with Vicky certainly sent him off with a bang. Branch 632 in Orleans did a great job in the hosting of the food and to make sure all were comfortable. It is a fantastic Branch. Mr Allan Roy,(Nephew) Mr,Dave Baker (Nephew), Retired CWO Errol Patrick (Arty) & Myself had 2 toast's at the site & then carried on at the Legion. Dave had to return to Oshawa after a little as he had just become a new Grandfather on the Thursday. Allan also retired after 3-4 hrs. Mr Patrick & I carried on as usual until the later hrs in the evening. John was always in attendance with Errol when Bon and I were in town. Black Watch tradition was upheld as I said my farewell to a good buddy.
