Richard is also survived by his devoted and loving children, daughter, Donna Mann Damen and son-in-law Willem and their children Matthew and Ashley of Simi Valley; son, David and daughter-in-law Denise and their daughter DeDe of La Canada; and son, Allan and daughter-in-law Antoinette and their children Cassandra and Christopher, also of Simi Valley.
Richard will long be remembered for encouraging others to seek out their fullest potential. Richard always encouraged the younger generations to obtain a college education so that they could gain the most knowledge possible and live life to its fullest potential. Richard was very proud of his family and they meant everything to him, especially his five grandchildren of whom he thought the world.
Richard served in the Canadian Army from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of the Black Watch, Royal Highland Regiment, 3rd Battalion. While in the Army, Richard played his bagpipes at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
In 1956 Richard married Barbara Anne Allan, also of Montreal, Canada. In 1958 Richard and Barbara moved from Montreal Canada to Ontario Canada where their three children were born. In 1965 Richard and Barbara moved their young family to California, first settling in Torrance where Richard was a used car salesman at Baher Chevrolet. In 1968, the business moved to Reseda and the "Mann" family moved to Simi Valley, where they have called home ever since.
Throughout his working career, Richard worked as an Encyclopedia Salesman, a Soft Water Salesman, a Car Salesman, a Piano and Accordion Lesson Salesman and finally he was a Realtor and Real Estate Broker as well as a Real Estate Property Manager. Richard was the broker/owner of Time Realty for over 27 years until his retirement in 1999.
Richard's family would often tease him that he had the "gift of gab" and would tell him that that he could sell ice cubes to Eskimos. During his years in retirement Richard kept active by preparing Income Tax Returns for family members, friends and former real estate clients. In addition, Richard enjoyed spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren) going on cruises with his family and traveling.
Richard was a licensed private pilot for small aircraft and he owned his own airplane, thus allowing the "Mann" family to fly to new places and experience numerous adventures.
A private memorial service for Richard will take place at a later date. Richard will be cremated and buried during a private family ceremony at a later date in Montreal, Canada.
The family is requesting that any donations be made in Richard's name to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association .
