Travis, John Ellis (Warrant Officer retired) – born in New Glasgow, NS, April 17, 1937, passed away peacefully October 5, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. John was the only son of the late Arnold and Catherine Travis. John was a 35 year veteran of the Canadian Military serving with both the Black Watch and 2RCR Regiments. His service included three tours in Cyprus and a posting abroad in Germany. He married Joan Ann Richard of New Glasgow October 5th, 1957. John was a long time resident of New Glasgow, following his retirement from the Canadian Forces in 1992. He was an avid hockey fan and was known for his in depth knowledge of those players both in or destined for the NHL, particularly if it involved the Canadians. He cherished his visits from family and friends. Survived by his only sibling Eleanor Hunter, Ontario; wife Joan, sons Scott (Susan), Lantz, NS, Darrell (Sonja), Hampton, NB and Brent (Kathleen), Ottawa, ON; and 5 grandchildren Jakob, Daniel, Nathaniel, Kaleigh and Isaak. The family will receive friends at the HW Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow, Monday 8 October, 7-9 pm. Services following cremation will take place in the Spring, in Kemptville NS, where he will be finally put to rest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Soldier On Fund.
