John Joseph White, 75, of Greenwood, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.
Born in Bras d’Or, he was a son of the late Henry and Harriet (Laffin) White.
He served in the Canadian Armed Forces, where he was involved with the Black Watch, Fire Fighters and various other organizations, retiring after 32 years of service.
He is survived by three daughters, Cindy (Denis) Lavoie, Montreal, Que., Wanda (Scott) Dewling, Cold Lake, Alta., Angela Chenier (Steve Bates), Kingston, Kings County; a son, Darren (Tara), Middle Sackville; eight grandchildren (who affectionately knew him as “Buds”); two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Harrietha and Catherine Luker, both of Bras d’Or; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Seila Ward, a son, John, three sisters, Frances Barton, Harriet Saunders and Mary Blenkhorn, four brothers, Henry, George, Jimmy and Gordon.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, with prayers to be held at 8 p.m. and where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, Fr. Gerald Saulnier officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville.
Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Valley Regional Hospital for their care, kindness and compassion. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
