Black Watch Friends:
Regret to report the passing of John Farmer in Ottawa this week.

John was posted to our Second Battalion in 1961 and went to Germany the following year with the battalion where he was highly respected by all ranks. He remained 2nd Bn Padre (P) throughout the NATO tour in Germany but was posted away when the unit returned to Gagetown in 1965. Later he returned to Germany as Senior Chaplain (P) CFE. He maintained some contact with his RHC comrades in the Ottawa area but waning health in recent years severely limited his social activities.

Rev. John Franklin Farmer
August 4, 1926 - February 4, 2018
Passed away peacefully at Colonel By Retirement Residence on Sunday, February 4, 2018; age 91 years. Beloved husband of the late Margaret June Farmer (Eastham). Loving father of Diane Perazzo (Richard), Michael (Kendal) and Douglas. Grandfather of Colin, Cameron, Evan and Elyse. Great-grandfather of Kallum.

Born in Woodstock New Brunswick in 1926, Rev. Farmer was the son of the late John Owen Farmer and Ruth Hope Farmer (White). He attended Mount Alison University (Sackville) and Wycliffe College (Toronto) and was ordained as an Anglican Minister in 1955. Rev. Farmer joined the Black Watch Regiment in 1961 and served as a Chaplain in the Canadian Military until he retired in 1981 and built a home in Westport Ontario. Devastated by his wife’s early passing in 2001 Rev. Farmer moved to Ottawa to be closer to his family.

Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). Rev Farmer will be interred in the National Military Cemetery of Canada located at Beechwood Cemetery and a Memorial Service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Vets Canada would be appreciated by the family who would also like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Colonel By Retirement Residence for their loving care and support.
