Black Watch friends:
Regret to report the passing of Lew MacNaughton last Sunday in New Glasgow, NS.
Lew was one of the originals in 2nd Canadian Highland Battalion (North Nova Scotia Highlander company) who re-badged to Second Battalion, The Black Watch on 8 October 1953 on board the USS Marine Lynz en route to Korea as Bass Drummer in the unit’s Pipes and Drums. After returning from Korea in 1954, he continued to serve with 2RHC Pipes and Drums in camps Aldershot and Gagetown where he remustered to Cook.
Lewis Cote "Lew" MacNaughton

1932 - 2020

It is with heavy hearts we are announcing the passing of our Dad and Papa (“Luppa”), Lew MacNaughton on Sunday, December 27th, 2020, following a brief illness. Dad was able to join “Joycie” on the anniversary of her death, leaving his family at peace to know they are together again. Dad was the source of the MacNaughton “quick wit”, and was well known for his inventions to make ease of daily tasks. He was a great story teller of his many stories that we’ve all heard over…and over…and over again. Dad was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces, and particularly proud of his service to the Black Watch Highland Regiment. Dad was stationed in Korea and Cyprus and other peace keeping missions, where he learned to be the chef we all knew and loved. From our little canteen in Central West River, on to Glen Haven Manor, then to the Heather Motel, which finally lead to the opening of “Lew’s Place” in the early 80’s at the Aberdeen Mall where he was very well known for the delicious meals he provided for the people of Pictou County. Although it was Mom who made the buns Dad was happiest when he was making music. He was a proficient piper, drummer, guitar and piano player, and was able to get music out of just about anything he picked up Dad will be sadly missed by his children, Louanne, Carol (Doug), Rob (Bonnie), Judy (Joe), Kathy, Kelly (Mike), Michael (Marlene), 23 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Dad is also survived by his sister, Freda Porter, his son in laws Bill Chalker and Bill MacLean and companion Vera Walton and their little dog, Lewie. Dad is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Joyce (Daley), daughter Lynn, daughter Wendy, grandson Mark, great granddaughters Madison and Hayden, and son in law David. Sisters Elizabeth (Dibba), Florence (Foddie) and Dorothy (Dottie), and his beloved Misty. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of H.W Angus Funeral home, New Glasgow. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no visitation. A private family service will be held at a later date. Dad and Mom will be laid to rest together at the family plot, next to Nana and Grampa at St. Bee’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Palliative Care unit of the Aberdeen Hospital or to a charity of ones choice. Special thank you to the Staff of the ER Department and the Palliative Care Team at the Aberdeen Hospital for the kind and compassionate care of Dad. “Together again” www.angusfuneralhomes.com
