Black Watch and RCR friends:

Regret to report the passing of Carlyle (Carl) Hick on 2 January.

After completing his basic training in The Black Watch Depot, Carl was posted to 1st Battalion, The Black Watch RHC and he accompanied the unit to Germany/Fort St. Louis in 1959. On return to Canada, he remained with 1RHC and deployed to Cyprus with the battalion in 1967. In 1970 he re-badged to 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment.
Believe that he remained with 2RCR until his retirement from the CAF.

Carlyle Burnard "Carl" Hick
1940-2022

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our loved one Carlyle Burnard "Carl" Hick on January 2, 2022, at the age of 81 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville.
Born in Sandys, Bermuda the family moved to his mother’s former village of Hackett’s Cove, where he resided until joining the Military in 1957. Originally, he was a member of the Black Watch and after their disbandment a member of 2 RCR. Upon retiring from his Military career, he moved to New Minas and took a position as a driver with Midland Transportation and later as Owner Operator for 20 years. He was an active member of New Minas United Church and after amalgamation Orchard Valley, serving on many committees and beloved men’s club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gloria (Draper); only son, Kevin Hick (Debbie Gaetan); daughter, Cheryl (Tim Gates); grandchildren, Kyle Gates, Hilary Lundy, Richard Gaetan, as well as his sisters, Odessa, Lorraine and Denise, of Halifax. He is predeceased by daughter, Crystal, brother, Robert, and sisters, Elizabeth and Darlene.
We would like to thank the staff at the Evergreen Home for Special Care for their care and compassion. Dad would also like to thank to Gloria’s angels who over the past two years have supported her with drives for visitations and great company.
Cremation has taken place. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services will be held at a later date to be announced. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

With thanks to John Marr and Gerry Oberwarth for the foregoing.
