Regret to report the passing of Diddy Desmond on 14 January 2022 in Moncton, NB.
Like many members of The Black Watch of Canada, Diddy came from Pictou County – the highland heart of Nova Scotia.
He joined The Black Watch RHC, 2nd Battalion (‘B’ Coy), in Camp Aldershot in 1957 and remained with the unit when it relocated to Camp Gagetown in 1958, then to Germany in 1962, then back to Gagetown in 1965, then to Cyprus in 1966 (‘A’ Coy) and again in 1969 (‘A’ Coy). In 1970 he re-badged to 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment.
Diddy was posted out of 2RCR in the mid ‘70s for a tour as an instructor with Recruit School Cornwallis following which he went back to 2RCR for several years before returning to Nova Scotia as a member of the Regular Support Staff at Camp Aldershot.
Diddy was a regular at Atlantic Branch of The Black Watch RHC Association’s annual gatherings, including the most recent reunion in Camp Aldershot this past September.

Clarence "Diddy" Desmond
1937 - 2022
Clarence "Diddy" Desmond, 84, of Moncton passed away peacefully on Saturday, January, 15, 2022. Born in New Glasgow NS, on June 14, 1937 he was the son of the late Isaac and Jessie (Paris) Desmond. Diddy had a strong faith and was described as a calm, quiet caring man.
He devoted 35 years of his life in the Black Watch Regiment, where he served overseas in countries like Germany, Cypress and many more. He was a member of the Moncton Legion Branch #6. He enjoyed sports especially watching a Blue Jays game. He enjoyed spending time at the cottage and camp with the Boucher and Leger families and going to watch hockey and ringette games where he would cheer on his nieces and nephews. His hobbies were playing darts, going to the gym, going to auctions, music, especially dancing with the love of his life Doreen.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Doreen (Leger) Desmond and his canine buddy Sadie. Also his children Mike (Laura) Mansfield, Dwain (Cheryl) Desmond, Darlene (Peter) Kircher, Darrel Desmond and Daphne (Bill) McKinnis. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren especially a special granddaughter Marquita Fraser. One brother Jim (Linda) Desmond. His is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a grandson Nathaniel Welch, sisters Isabelle, Bessie, Eileen, Evelyn, Shirley, Annie and Margie. Brothers Alphy, Louis, Francis, George, Doug and Ernie Johnson.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no Funeral Service at this time. Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd. Moncton (858-1995), in care of arrangements.
