Born in 31/08/1930 at Alberton , Prince Edward Island , Canada

John William, “Bill” Leavitt, Dartmouth, N.S., died Dec. 12, 2007, at home. Born in Alberton, P.E.I., Aug. 31, 1930. The only child of J. Allison and Kristine (Kennedy) Leavitt. Due to the early death of both parents, Bill was raised by grandparents, Jack and Luella Kennedy of O’Leary, and Will and Katherine Leavitt of Alberton. Joining the Armed Forces in 1948, he served as a Sergeant in the Black Watch Regiment in Canada and Germany. He was employed with Steed and Evans Ltd. (now Lafarge) from 1972 until his retirement in 1998. Surviving are his wife, Frances, daughters, Kristine (Lance) Miller, Leslie (Andrew) MacNeil, sons, Jeffrey, and David (Katrina). Grandchildren, Wesley and Greysen Sturgeon, Jamie and Kelcey Leavitt, Kaleigh, Ashlinn and Meghan MacNeil, Cassandra Leavitt, Aunt Jean (Kennedy) Stetson, O’Leary. Bill donated his body to the Faculty of Medicine Dalhousie University for the advancement of medical education and research. A memorial service was held June 26, 2009, at St John Vianney Church, Lower Sackville. Cremation has taken place. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 27, 2009, in St. Peters Anglican Cemetery, Alberton, Rev. Andrew Mortimer officiating.
