Ken Mitchell has provided following obit for Doug Horne who served with 1st Battalion in Aldershot.
HORNE, Douglas Clement – 75, Enfield, passed away at the Magnolia Nursing Home, Enfield, on July 31, 2011. Born in Enfield he was the son of the late John E. and Elsie (Garden) Horne. Doug served in the Canadian Black Watch before moving to the USA in 1960 to begin a career managing Woolworth department stores throughout New England. In 1981 Doug purchased and ran the Otis General Store in Otis Maine. Before moving back to Nova Scotia Doug was also involved with the Mardens chain of stores in Maine. Doug was a sports fan who enjoyed the Red Sox, Bruins and stock car racing, including owning a stock car in the 70's. Doug was a member of Branch 133 of Enfield Legion. Doug is survived by sons Patrick and his wife, Martha, and their children Lydia and Molly of Holden, Me.; Jeffrey and his wife, Elaine of Holden Me.; and their daughter, Erin Horne and her children, Kyle and Kaleb Johnson, of Hermon, Me.; brother Ross Horne, Enfield; sisters Margaret Guchard, Alliston, ON.; and Jacqueline Fraser, Sackville, NS. Doug was predeceased by son Mark, sisters Jean Richards, Eileen Meagher, Maxine Doner, and Dorothy Barrett. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home. There will be a Legion Service 7 pm, August 12, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. There will be no funeral service by request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 133, Enfield in memory of Doug. Family and friends may send condolences to the family at: etingerfuneralhome.com
