Black Watch Friends:
Regret to inform you of the recent passing of Jack Shaw in Perth, Ontario.
Jack Server with 2nd Battalion in Korea where he was Company Signaler for the late Gordon Sellar. A few years ago he told me that, shortly after returning to Canada, his initial three-year engagement expired so he proceeded from his company office (roughly where the West Nova Scotia Regiment Drill Hall now stands in Aldershot) up to the Battalion Orderly Room (just behind the Black Watch Memorial in Aldershot) to sign his re-engagement papers. En route, he encountered 1st Battalion’s RSM Finnie who scolded Jack for some transgression (now long forgotten) which caused him to change his mind about re-engaging in the RHC. He, instead, joined the RCAF where he became a Military Policeman. His retired after his final posting to Ottawa.
The following is from the Ottawa Citizen on Saturday 12 November 2011.
Note that a memorial service will be on Tuesday afternoon in Perth.
