Sgt Vernon Blake MM passed away on November 16th at Ste Anne's Veterans Hospital at the age of 96. His obit notice from the Montreal Gazette is below.

Sgt Vernon Blake won his MM for his actions while serving in carrier platoon, to rescue and recover many wounded soldiers during the disastrous Black Watch attack on Verrière Ridge in 1944. Prior to the War, Vernon was on the team representing Canada at the 1938 Commonwealth games in Sydney Australia. He won the silver medal in Bantamweight Wrestling.

Vernon, at the age of 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2011.
He will be sadly missed by his brother Arnold (Esther), his daughters Barbara, Marilyn, son Larry, grandchildren Kevin, Shannon, Collin, Scott and great grandchildren Charis, Micah, and Silas.
He will also be greatly missed by Kim, Wendy, Christopher and many extended family members.
We all appreciate the great sacrifice made by Vernon, a decorated WWII veteran.
Service will be Thursday,
November 24 at 11 a.m.
