On July 30 1974 at the cadet camp Valcartier, a grenade exploded killing six cadets and injuring 54 others. That was thirty four years ago. This year a few of those cadets, the NCOs and Officers have started to come together. The reason they were able to find each other was because of this Black Watch Meet and Greet Forum. We are very thankful for the site. There were a few Black Watch members present that day.
As the number of names grew we created a FaceBook group to keep each other and to be aware of the activities that are planned for next summer's (2009) memorial at Valcartier. The memorial is scheduled to be held on July 30, 2009.
If you were a member of D Company, and would like to know more about the activities that are planned for next summer, please join the FaceBook Group. It is a private group for the members of D Company, and those that were involved. I know you will be pleased to see some of your old friends are already there.
The number of us in the contact group is growing and we would like you to be a part of it. If you are not a member of D Company 1974, but know someone who is, please tell them about the group.
We would like to be in touch with you to have you receive the updates and the progress of the event that is planned for next year.
Even if you cannot attend the ceremonies, it would be important to hear from you, especially if you are still in contact with someone else that was there, or you know where they are.
We are gathering together slowly and are in contact with some of your old friends from across Canada and as far away as Trinidad and Tobago.
