WILLIAMSON, Ian 11 Years, 11 Months ago
It is with deep regret that I share with you that one of our long time fellow members, Ian Williamson passed away in the early hours of June 9 due to heart failure after undergoing emergency heart surgery on May31/June 1.

Ian joined the Toronto Black Watch Association upon his return from service overseas with the 27th Brigade in 1954. He had shipped overseas as a member of the 48th Highlanders of Canada, but he returned home as a member of The Black Watch RHC.

Ian was a strong supporter throughout his life of both his Regiments and their Associations. With specific focus on the TBWA, he moved from member status to Director in 1971 and continued to serve as a Director and also did a stint as Secretary and Treasurer through his continuous service as a Director and member spanning 58 years.

Ian was always good for a “story” but what some of you might not know was that he had a keen grasp of history. Especially military history and was in fact a volunteer in the 48th Highlanders’ Museum for one day every week.

Above all, Ian was easy to talk to and was a good friend of many in the TBWA over the years. I consider myself privileged to be able to say that I was one of the many and we will miss him.

A funeral service for Ian will take place at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home located at 5295 Thickson Road North in Whitby on Sunday, June 17.
There will be a visitation from 1100 – 1200 hours with the funeral service at 1200 hours.

For those of the TBWA who are able to attend the service, the wearing of Blazer and Grays with Balmorals would be appropriate. Full medals may be worn.

A formal notice is expected to be in Tuesday’s papers.

Sincerely,
Bill Carlisle
