From Majors R.F. Clarke and V.M. Knowlton
December 2010
Dear Black Watch Cadet alumnus/alumna,
As a former member of the Black Watch Cadet Corps, you appreciate the many benefits that the Cadet Program offers to young Canadians. As was the case in our days as cadets, leadership, physical fitness, discipline and tradition are still among the main objectives of the Cadet program, along with the opportunity for adventure and experience not possible outside of the Cadet movement.
Today, many former Black Watch Cadets serve our country as members of Canada's forces deployed overseas. On a daily basis, they draw upon the basics of military life that they learned at the Black Watch Armoury on Bleury Street and at cadet summer training camps across Canada.
In recent years, the Department of National Defence has cut funding to certain parts of the cadet program. One item that was cut was the Canadian Cadet Scholarship, which some of us were fortunate to be awarded during our service. This scholarship fund provided at least one Black Watch Cadet annually with a bursary toward his/her post-secondary studies.
The Leadership Campaign was recently established to raise funds to re-establish and maintain annual scholarships for current and future Black Watch Cadets. The campaign has set a target of $25,000 to be raised by the end of 2011. This amount, which will be managed by the Black Watch of Canada Foundation, will provide up to two (2) scholarships of $500 each to deserving cadets each year.
We are asking for your support of this important project. All donations of $25 or more will be acknowledged with a receipt for income tax purposes.
If you are able to support this worthy cause, you can make your donation in one of two (2) ways:
